| From 1986 to 1994 The "Jazz Express" program was produced by the Jazz Institute of Chicago in tandem with the Chicago Public Schools as an educational outreach program for high school students. It involved concerts in the schools but also follow-up activities such as study guides about the history of the music. This video consists of segments from the Chicago TV news on the day when Wynton Marsalis was the special guest speaker for a Jazz Express event at one of Chicago's top schools, the Whitney Young Magnet School. Michelle Obama, our First Lady, had graduated from this school five years before this 1986 concert & lecture. The Chicago Jazz Express musicians seen in these two clips are: Jimmy Ellis - alto & saxophone George Bean - trumpet John Young - piano John Whitfield - bass Wilbur Campbell - drums Wilbur Campbell played with many of the jazz masters during his long career. He can be seen in these news segments jamming with Marsalis in a duet mode - just trumpet & drums. Wilbur made his transition on December 30, 1999 at the age of 73.
